Youth Health Centre

Services for youth regarding addiction, mental health and sexual health are available to youth on a daily basis at Park View Education Centre. These services are offered through Addiction and Mental Health Services, South Shore Health. All services are free and confidential.  Some of the many services offered are; one-on-one counseling, treatment plans, group therapy, mental health diagnosis, pregnancy testing, free condoms, advocacy and much more. Appointments with a Nurse Practitioner from South Shore Health are also available.

Students are encouraged to refer themselves by simply walking through the doors of the Youth Health Centre (YHC). Teachers and parents can also refer youth to the YHC by simply contacting the Counseling Centre. The YHC is located behind the school in the blue portable. Hours of each staff person are posted for consistency and to assist youth and staff in knowing when to access the services.

PEERs Parent Session

Attention: Parents, Guardians and Community Members: The South Shore Regional School Board and Autism Nova Scotia, South Shore Chapter are pleased to announce a presentation regarding a new program that the SSRSB is  introducing at the Secondary Level called PEERS.

The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) was originally developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson, Founder and Director of the UCLA PEERS Clinic, and Dr. Fred Frankel in 2005 and has expanded to locations across the United States and the world. PEERS is a manualized, social skills training intervention for adolescents and young adults. It has a strong evidence-base for use with teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, but is also appropriate for teens and young adults with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other socio-emotional problems.

We would like to invite you to an evening presentation with Doctor Elizabeth Laugeson author of the PEERS Program from UCLA, California.

Parents as Career Coaches

Parents are the single greatest influence on their child's education and career decisions.

That's why the Department of Education offers Parents as Career Coaches, a program offered at no cost to parents and guardians of junior and senior high school students across Nova Scotia. This program equips parents to better support their children in making informed and successful education and career choices.

Parents_as_Career_Coaches

Senior High School Program

The two evening session helps parents understand the critical role they play in assisting their child to recognize their interests & unique talents.

The sessions also explore what employers consider to be critical skills, qualities, and attitudes required in today's and tomorrow' labour market.

When your children are getting ready to transition from high school to post-secondary or into the workforce, this program will help you and your child use career planning tools and explore opportunities that suit your child's interests and skills.

Park View Education Centre will host Senior High Sessions which take two evenings to complete.
Monday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 5, 2014
6:30 - 9:30 pm (each evening)

To sign up for workshops, visit www.parentsascareercoaches.ca
If you do not have internet access or do not wish to register on the website, please contact the school office to add your name to the list.
