What do school counsellors do??
School Counsellors are student advocates: Our goal is to support you. We focus on these four areas:
- Personal (ANYTHING you want to discuss, we’ll listen!)
- Social (relationships, communication skills, mediation)
- Career (future plans, help finding information on schools and careers)
- Educational (credit checks, transcripts, course changes or concerns, study skills)
There is always a qualified and experienced counsellor available to help you.
If I talk to a counsellor, is it confidential?
Some of the issues we discuss are “guidance-like”: course changes and educational planning. It is often to your benefit for us to discuss this with your teachers.
Even with personal issues, sometimes we might ask the teacher for information or share information with teachers but only with your permission.
If you were referred to us through our Program Planning Team (PPT), we are expected to report back to the team but we do not share personal information without your permission.
Often we get help or advice from other counsellors but we never share names. Your situation might be discussed but you will never be identified.
If you wish to set up an appointment confidentially, you can e-mail Lisa at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and she will reply with a time for you.
There are 3 situations when we are required to talk to others. When you tell us:
- You want to harm yourself (suicidal thoughts)
- You want to harm others
- You are under 16 and someone else is harming you.
Comprehensive Guidance and Counselling
We have a team approach at Park View. The Comprehensive Guidance and Counselling Committee (CGCC) helps the school counsellors decide how to best meet the needs of the students. Members of this committee include teachers, support staff, administrators, students and community members. This committee has now merged with the Student Wellness committee as we are working towards similar goals.

- You can book appointments with one of our admin assistants or your can e-mail the counsellors and we will respond with a time. You can also e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Course Handbook 2012-2013
Park View Education Centre
2012-2013
INTRODUCTION
At Park View Education Centre we believe in providing a wide variety of opportunities for students. This is reflected in the number of course options we offer. The Department of Education, in an effort to prepare students for the today’s world, has also promoted many new and exciting courses and programs.
However, it may not be possible for us to offer every course that is included in this book. Final decisions on next year’s course offerings will be primarily determined by the number of students selecting the course at the time of spring registration.
It is important that students select courses carefully and with consideration to their graduation requirements, post secondary plans, personal interests and abilities. We strongly encourage all students to consult with a school counsellor when making their final decisions.

2013-2014 Course Registration
Registration for 2013-2014
The process of registering of our current grade 10 and 11 students for the 2013-2014 year began in February. Counsellors have already visited classrooms to present course selection information to students.
On-line registration will take place during school hours. Students are required to have parent signatures on both sides of their registration sheets as well as the student fee.
The Course Fair will be held on March 20th. The purpose of this event is to encourage students to talk to teachers about courses they are interested in taking and ensure appropriate placement.
Registration for courses will take place on March 25, 26, and 27th.
