The Concert Band is our wind and percussion band under the direction of Mr. Ken Foote. Music 10, Music 11, and Music 12 students are members of this ensemble.

Concert Band is a critical part of the academic Music 10, 11, and 12 credit courses. Each student's contribution to the ensemble is determined by the quality and quantity of individual practice and their contribution to ensemble rehearsals. Students who do not attend rehearsals cannot contribute to the ensemble's development. We meet as a band on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm. Students are required to notify Mr. Foote in advance of the rehearsal in writing (email preferred) if they will be absent.

In addition to Tuesday afternoon rehearsals, the band and sections of the band will rehearse on some Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-1:25 pm. Dates to be posted in the Band Room, Music Room and emailed to the student distribution list.

Student absences for illness and other activities are certainly understandable and acceptable. Student attendance is not a factor in assessing student achievement. However, when students are absent, they cannot contribute to the ensemble's development and they miss 90 minutes of instruction and rehearsal. Missing the musical development that takes place during a rehearsal negatively affects student performance and this does affect student achievement.

The major focus of the ensemble is to develop technique and skills through the use of Edward Lisk's Alternative Rehearsal Techniques (ART). As musicians improve their musical vocabulary we are able to advance our ensemble from mechanical rehearsals to artistic performances.
